It is Recovery Week! And thank goodness because I really need it. I feel drained and exhausted after last week. It was a tough batch of workouts, culminating with a 2k, which I did on Saturday. I ran Sunday. That was foolish. I definitely needed to rest. I’m starting to get a little obsessed with calorie counting, and I’m being real about it here so that I own it and turn away from that well-trodden path. Thankfully, this week is designed to give my body a break while maintaining fitness with shorter, easier workouts spaced out every other day.
I woke up Monday morning and felt like I had to drag myself out of bed and down to the basement. Each day though, I’ve been able to give myself a little more space and time to recover. Folding the laundry will wait another day. It’s recovery week.
I am psyched, nay SUPER psyched with how the first half of this plan went. I think a lot of my positive feelings are tied to the result of my 2k this past Friday, which I’m happy to say went really well. I’m not sure I would be as excited about the first half of the training if the 2k hadn’t gone as well as it did, but I also think that a test piece like that is and should be a reflection of the training, not some magical result pulled out of one’s nether regions on race day. I did the work, so the test went well. If the test hadn’t gone well, it would’ve been a reflection of the fact that I hadn’t honestly done the work.
That being said, I did get super nervous for the piece and woke up at like 4:30am the morning of, thinking about it. I ordered some sandals online at 5am, due to dang targeted Instagram ads, a fact I forgot about until I got an email reminder about it today. Oops.
After this week, after some recovery time, the next 4 weeks will build up again. I signed up for an erg race that happens to coincide with the last day of my plan, which seemed like destiny since I began the plan on a pretty arbitrarily chosen day. Fools Fest is happening virtually on Saturday, April 3rd, if you’re looking for a race. I’ll just be over here, plodding away on the erg while the world wakes up again. Hopefully see you all outside again sometime soon!
