I love the idea of a fresh start. I know it’s technically an arbitrary day, an artifact of the calendar, as my husband likes to remind me. I still like it. He just said “ugh fine.”
I like having a starting point that feels significant, even if I could just use any Monday for the same purpose. January 1st seems like it means something and is easy to remember as a starting point when I look back after my complete success (obviously).
I also really like Resolutions. I like making goals in general, but “Resolutions” sound like something I could put on a poster board with glitter and gel pens without any reservations. Maybe I will this year. I usually only try to make one, and I tell as few people about it as possible because most of the people I’m around regularly aren’t big resolutions people. But I like spectacle. I like a tiny bit of controlled excitement. I like surprises. And I like something I can make a little deal about. Resolutions tick all the boxes.
So here it goes. Here are some Resolutions for 2022:
- Less phone time, especially Instagram.
- Write a little everyday.
- Follow the workout plan but don’t obsess over exercise.
- Take short walks instead of snacking on work days.
We’ll see how it goes. I’ll make them specific and measurable on my own time, don’t you worry. I think they say it takes 2 weeks for something to become a habit, so we’ll talk about it again in mid-January. If you’re making Resolutions, good luck, and if you’re not, no judgments here! Peace.
